How to refuse an invitation
Have you been invited to a party or a ceremony and you don’t really want to go? Here are some suggestions on how to refuse the invitation politely

- 1Even if sometimes it would be easier to ignore the invitation, it is good manner to inform the person who invited you that you won’t be going. In fact if you don’t answer to the invitation the person may contact you and this could be embarrassing
- 2If you get invited directly from the person face to face and you don’t know what to answer, you can say you will have to check your agenda to see if you are free that day. The same day or the day after you can call and say you won’t be able to make it because you have a very important appointment for that day
- 3If you are invited via e-mail, facebook or myspace try and answer as soon as possible to let them know that you are not going. In this case it is not necessary to invent an excuse
- 4If you receive a formal invitation through the post it is very important to answer as soon as possible. Usually this type of invitation is used for big events like weddings so it would be a good idea to send a little present with a card in which you explain that you are really sorry but you won’t be able to participate to the event
- 5Remember that is always good manner to reply to the invitation so that you won’t disappoint the person who invited you!
